 August 2013

We regret to inform, that our vessel Ramco Crusader working for Petrobras in the Potiguar basin in Brasil encountered a fire in engine room early morning on Monday, August/12. Crew did their utmost to extinguish the fire, however the fire developed rapidly and thick and heavy smoke and heat made the fight impossible, so decision was taken to abandon ship. The Crew of 15 were transferred to nearby support vessels. After the Crew have been evacuated the ship, went adrift for about 45 km off the coast of Beberibe. For several hours smoke and fire was coming from the ship signifying an extensive fire. A nearby vessel was hired in order to do firefighting by using this vessel FIFI plant and extensive amount of water was used in order to try to control the fire, but result was limited. Hiring a salvage company and towing of the vessel to closest port was as well on the plan, but regretfully at 2100 Lt same day the vessel capsized and sank. Crew were transferred to the nearest port, Fortaleza, where after Medical check were accommodated at Hotel Sonata de Ipacema. The investigation is going on, and we assume crew are released, and free to go homeland sometime middle next week depending on the interview of each crewmember. There were no Casualties, and no pollution identified.
